The National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Permit Compliance Program Opens in New Window is federally mandated and administered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency through the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. This permit is issued to Pasco County and other similar local governments nationally along with municipalities and some state agencies such as the Florida Department of Transportation. The NPDES Permit Program is part of the 1972 Clean Water Act of the United States Congress.
The NPDES Permit requires compliance with all applicable water quality regulations related to stormwater runoff, and assurance that all of the county’s Municipal Separate Storm Sewer Systems are functional and well-maintained. These requirements are met using the following programs and services:
