Lifeguard Certification Course Information
Two Weekend Course includes the following:
Red Cross Lifeguard Training
First Aid/CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuers
Waterfront Safety Add on
Dates: March 27 - 29 and April 3-5, 2020
Times: Friday 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m./Saturday and Sunday 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Additional Fee: $38 for certifications required upon successful completion
Minimum Age: 15 years old
Pretest: March 11 or March 18, 2020
*Successful completion of the pretest is required to enroll.
Pretest Information: Pretest begins at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 11, 2020 or March 18, 2020 at Veterans Memorial Park Pool.. In order to participate in the class candidates must successfully complete the minimum requirements. If a candidate is only able to complete the minimum requirements, they can audit or elect to skip the waterfront portion of the class.
Minimum Pretest Requirements: Swim 300 yards (continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. Candidates may swim using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of the two, but swimming on the back or side is not allowed. Swim goggles are allowed) Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs (Candidates should place their hands under the armpits) Brick Test within 1 minute, 30 seconds (Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. The face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed. Surface dive, feet-first or head-first or head-first, to a depth 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface and swim 20 yards to return to the starting point with both hands holding the object and keeping the face at or near the surface so they are able to get a breath. Candidates should not swim the distance under water. Exit the water without using a ladder or steps).
Pretest Requirements for Waterfront Certification: Swim 550 yards (see details above under swim 300 yards, same rules apply, the distance just increases) Tread water for 2 minutes using only legs (See details above) Brick Test within 1 minute, 40 seconds (See details above) Underwater Ring Test (Swim 5 yards, submerge and retrieve three dive rings placed 5 yards apart in 4 to 7 feet of water, resurface and continue to swim another 5 yards to complete the skill sequence).
Fees: Payments for the course ($100) must be made prior to noon on March 28, 2020. Payment for the course may be made after successful completion of the pretest. An additional $39 fee for the Red Cross certifications is required upon successful completion of the course.
Texts: Candidates will be given a link to the course text book (Free). They must bring a copy to class (digital or printed). The American Red Cross Lifeguarding Manual may also be purchased in advance online at redcrossstore.org.
Things to bring: Bathing Suit (1 piece for females/swim trunks for males), Sunblock, Towel, Goggles, LG Manual Text (printed/tablet/laptop), Lunch/Snacks & Drinks (Water), Mask & Fins (if you have them).
Additional Information: Our lifeguard course is classroom based. There is no additional course work required to be completed on the computer, at home. However, homework and reading will be assigned. Additionally, we offer an optional practice night for those that want to polish their skills. Red Cross mandates that candidates attend all class sessions. If you have a schedule conflict we encourage you to contact us. In some cases we are able to accommodate and provide additional instruction if time and personnel allows.
